    Catena Alta Malbec 2004 - Catena Malbec 2004
    Bodega Catena Zapata's Alta Malbec 2004 took top spot the wine to have with meat in the final of the Malbec Made for Meat competition which took place on the 13th of September at the Gaucho Restaurant in Piccadilly.
    It also won the award for Best with Lamb. In a clean sweep of sorts, the Catena Malbec 2004 won the Best with Beef award.

    "One of the finest wineries in South America, Catena has fashioned two high quality wines...The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Agrelo Vineyard (rating 90) reveals a healthy dark ruby/purple color, followed by intense, rich, black currant fruit nicely infused with toasty oak and spice. This is a concentrated wine with a sweet, ripe, highly-extracted mid-palate, ripe tannin, and good delineation...this wine appears capable of evolving and improving over the next 2-3 years, and lasting for a decade or more...The 1996 Chardonnay Agrelo Vineyard (rating 88) exhibits a Burgundian-like leesy, smoky, toasty, roasted nut, and tropical fruit scented nose of moderate complexity. In the mouth, it is rich, concentrated, and nicely textured, with medium to full body, and gobs of ripe, honeyed, citrusy fruit with orange and tangerine notes. This is a delicious, complex, Burgundian-styled Chardonnay for drinking over then next 2 years."

    "I was knocked out by the 1994 Catena Chardonnay Agrelo Vineyard (rating 90). Aromatically it is reminiscent of a top premier or grand cru from Mersault or Chassagne Montrachet...The 1993 Cabernet Sauvignon Agrelo Vineyard (rating 89+) reveals a dark garnet/ruby color, followed by a spicy, currant nose with hints of chocolate, smoke, and tobacco. This rich, well endowed Cabernet is still young; it promises to improve for 2-3 years and last for a decade. Don't be surprised to see it merit an even higher rating."
